“Deep Within My Heart . . .”

“. . . lies a melody”: Back when the hotel now known officially as the (take a deep breath) “Marriott Courtyard Fort Worth Downtown/Blackstone” was just the “Blackstone” (built in 1929), radio station WBAP had its studio on the top floor.

Fort Worth historian Carol Roark says Bob Wills and band recorded the immortal “San Antonio Rose” in the studio. Wills biographer Charles Townsend says the boys merely wrote the lyrics of the song in the Blackstone while Wills was a guest in the hotel.
